Work Packages

WP01: Project management and coordination

Objective: The deliverable concerns all the necessary actions of management and monitoring of the project to ensure its correct and timely completion.

Indicative deliverables:

  • Financial and Physical Object Progress Reports
  • Project monitoring and planning documents
  • Auction documents and tender procedures
  • Project Modification Requests
  • Expenditure Verification Requests
  • Correspondence
  • Minutes of Technical Meetings and Teleconferences
  • Final Completion Report
WP02: Publicity and information

Objective: The deliverable concerns defining a common communication identity for the project and implementing publicity actions.

Indicative deliverables:

  • Information days
  • Brochures
  • Project website
  • Informational material
WP03: Development of the pilot units

Objective: The design and development of pilot units for the on-site management of hospital wastewater to improve the efficiency of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the utilization of the effluents. The pilot units consist of:

  1. anaerobic membrane bioreactor for the removal of organic matter, solids, part of CECs, pathogenic microorganisms and biogas (energy) production;
  2. a treatment plant with the Lemna minor plant to remove CECs, while the plant biomass produced will be collected and dried for use as solid fuel;
  3. an ultraviolet unit combined with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to oxidate resistant CECs and ARBs.

In total, each pilot unit will be able to treat 0.75-1.0 m3 of hospital wastewater per day.

Indicative deliverables:

  • Technical specifications of pilot units
  • Auction documents
WP04: Operation of the processing units

Objective: It concerns the operation of the pilot units, the management of the produced plant biomass, and the analysis of the CECs and the ARBs.

Indicative deliverables:

Pilot units with the ability to treat 0.75-1.0 m3 of hospital wastewater per day, which will consist of:

  1. anaerobic membrane bioreactor for the removal of organic matter, solids, part of CECs and pathogenic microorganisms and biogas (energy) production;
  2. a treatment plant with the Lemna minor plant to remove CECs, while the plant biomass produced will be collected and dried for use as solid fuel;
  3. an ultraviolet unit combined with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to oxidate resistant CECs and ARBs.
WP05: Evaluation of the real impact of the process

Objective: Includes the recording of all services offered by hospitals in the individual wards (treatment services, nursing services, catering services, administrative services) and mapping of the sewerage network within the hospital premises to identify sources of wastewater and clarify the way they are collected and transported to the city network.

Indicative deliverables:

  • Recording of hospital services.
  • The capture of hospital sewerage network.
WP06: Technical, Environmental, and Economic Evaluation

Objective: Technical, Environmental, and Economic Evaluation of the project. Specifically, it includes collecting data on the operating costs (personnel, chemical consumables, maintenance costs, etc.) of the individual systems of the pilot units that the partners will utilize for the feasibility study. It also includes recording the energy consumption of the separate systems of the pilot units and recording the quantities of treated water and dry biomass produced in the system with Lemna minor.

Indicative deliverables:

  • Technical evaluation
  • Environmental assessment
  • Financial report
  • Study of complete application in hospitals.
